Facebook allows 'panic button'
Social networking site Facebook is allowing users to add a
'panic button' onto their profiles. Users can now install an
application created by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection
(CEOP) Centre.
It adds a new page to your profile, which links to advice on
staying safe online and a place where you can report anything that
may be worrying you. The application is called ClickCEOP and is
designed to help protect under 18s in the UK who use the site.
Find out more about staying safe on the web Bebo was the first
social networking site to introduce a panic button, followed by
MySpace. In March, Facebook said it wouldn't allow such a feature,
but this new agreement comes after months of talks between the site
and CEOP.
It's thought that around a quarter of eight to 12-year-olds are
signed up to social networking sites, even though most say you have
to be 13 or older to have a profile.
